SIDA-KIPS Research Seminars

The East African School of Library and Information Science (EASLIS), under the SIDA-KIPS project hosted a Ph.D. research seminar series from the 29th October to 10th November 2017. The project addresses Building Capacity for Knowledge and Information Production and Sharing for Socio- economic Development in Uganda and is a collaboration between Swedish School of Library and Information Science, University of Borås, Sweden, and Makerere University.  The project supports; Five (5) EASLIS staff pursuing Ph.D. at Makerere University, Research teams, pedagogical and research management skills, Graduate curriculum review,  Launching and supporting a LIS On-line Journal,  Innovative LIS

EASLIS hosts Kawempe Youth Centre Team

The East African School of Library and Information Sciences (EALSIS) on 18th Oct 2017 hosted the Kawempe Youth Centre (KYC). The KYC team was led by Mrs. Esther Kyazike (CEO, KYC) and key presenter during the 3-hour talk session. The topic for discussion was the Roles of Libraries in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s). Mrs. Kyazike was humbled and honored to be addressing students from EALSIS, Makerere University. EASLIS PHD PUBLIC SEMINAR

The East African School of Library and Information Science (EASLIS) on 7th Nov 2017 hosted a Ph.D. Public Seminar for 1st year Ph.D. students to provide a platform to present their research concepts, an opportunity to learn, critique their peers, improve on articulation etc. The seminar was organized and officiated by Prof. Maria Musoke. In attendance were Prof. Tonny Oyana (Principal, CoCIS), Dr. W. Kiyingi, Dr. Joyce Bukirwa, EASLIS academic staff, invited guests and members from the general public. LIS is considered as a cross cutting discipline in humanities, sciences and technology. In Uganda, training in LIS started in 1963 when the East African School of Librarianship (EASL) now East African School of Library and Information Science (EASLIS) was established at Makerere University in 1963 and is one of the academic units equivalent of a faculty.
