I take this opportunity to welcome you to East African School of Library and Information Science, popularity known as EASLIS. EASLIS is a regional center of excellence for educating Information Scientists, Records Managers, Archivists and professionals engaged in book production chain. Established in 1963, EASLIS has a very reach history which it is strategically building on by using its strategic plans of 2007/08 -2017/18. As part of the global reforms in Higher Educational Institutions and in particular Makerere University, EASLIS together with the former Faculty of Computing and Informatics Technology joined to form the College of Computing and Information Sciences. This is anticipated to help build the synergies and enable the College become the center of excellence for educating and training Computer experts, Information Scientists, Records and Archives managers in Africa.

EASLIS Strategic goals:
To provide a teaching and learning environment in Library, Information Science, Records and Archives that assures quality of staff and students that become competitive in the changing information management environment.
To promote staff and students’ research and technology innovations in Library, Information Science, Records and Archives Management.
To mentor staff and students in Library and Information Science, Records and Archives Management with a purpose of preparing them for employment in the ever changing public and private sector information environment.
To promote transfer of Library and Information management, Records and Archives management best practices to private and public sector.
To facilitate Library and Information Science, Records and Archives management academic work on real life sector information management and challenges.
To facilitate networking between the private, public sector and EASLIS stakeholders.
Key elements that make EASLIS a place to choose to study from include and are not limited to:
EASLIS is one of the few institutions in the world with a School status in a University. Because of this, it has built its human resources capacity to 21 academic staff currently and we intend to recruit another 8 before this year ends so as to ably handle the teaching, research and community services.
Integrated Curricula: All academic programmes at EASLIS have integrated coverage of relevant ICT courses and the key skills and competencies required within its discipline of work. All our curricula are reviewed after every cohort. This helps to make EASLIS courses stay afloat.
EASLIS is committed to its multidisciplinary and inter-professional team teaching and team learning which helps in promoting effective learning in an ever dynamic world.
EASLIS continues its community engagement as a core activity making it stand out in our society.
Overall, EASLIS within its operational mandate will play a significant role to continuously transform and improve on the Library, Information Science, Records and Archives Management profession in the East African region and Africa at large.
