EASLIS starts Research Seminars

The East African School of Library and Information Sciences (EASLIS) held a one-day research seminar on 15thDecember, 2011.

This seminar was aimed at providing reviews and guidance to the researchers on how to improve their papers before they are presented in workshops, conferences and journals.

The EASLIS dean, Dr. Constant Okello-Obura, said the seminar was also an avenue of sharing and creating visibility for the different research being carried out at the School.

“The College management is very supportive of EASLIS’ research activities so I encourage staff members to come on board and tap into the available research resources, said Dr. Obura, adding that the researchers should organize themselves in groups in order to conduct research that is useful to the nation and beyond.

The Dean encouraged participants to be more creative in terms of research. That even when there are no research funds to facilitate their research activities, they can still do useful research through literature reviews.

Six research papers were presented during the seminar and the Dean promised that the research seminar will be held twice every year.

The College Principal, Prof. Ikoja Odongo, encouraged the researchers to publish their findings and this increase their own visibility and that of EASLIS.

He also urged them to invite government and private sector stakeholders to attend such events as this will go a long way in facilitating the formation of partnerships with these entities.
