MASTER OF SCIENCE IN INFORMATION SCIENCE (MSc Inf. Sc.)

Information is a key resource for individual, organizational, national and international development. It must therefore be generated, processed, stored, and disseminated. However, because it is a non-dynamic resource, the above activities cannot happen by themselves. Therefore, there must exist a body of information professionals with extensive theory (knowledge) and training (competencies and skills) in order to effectively manage this information. Since 1963  EASLIS has been training national and international library and information professionals to undertake various information management tasks. However, new workforce needs have emerged requiring a new brand of information professionals with unique and specialized knowledge and skills necessitating a review the programme.

The Uganda Library and Information Workforce Planning Project, conducted in 2006, established that EASLIS clients demanded the introduction of evening and/or weekend programmes, incorporating modern information management techniques and introduction of a double-barreled approach to graduate training.
